A multiverse of possibilities.

Future Now is a collaborative science fiction universe based on the award-winning YouTube series, What If. The project explores a post-human future on, and above, an Earth beset by environmental, economic, and cultural disasters. Set in the year 2084, five factions battle to determine humanity’s destiny - each with their own distinct vision for our future. Who will prevail? The choice is yours.

The Future Now community will get to determine what happens next in the web series by participating in polls, up-voting stories, and joining our online events!

A glimpse into our near future

It’s 2084, and for decades our planet has been punished by extreme weather events and the wars, mass migrations, and pandemics that followed. We’ve been pushed closer to extinction than ever before. More than a billion have died, governments have fallen, scientific advances are pushing us, ever faster, towards a future we don’t understand, and two new superpowers circle each other, preparing for a war that could be the last in human history.

But all is not lost. During our darkest days, a new movement of hope blossomed. Green technologies became vital to our survival, so they were adopted almost everywhere on the planet. As great powers fell, so did their hold on the world economy, allowing impoverished areas to innovate and ascend -- on a global basis, economic inequality is at its lowest levels in human history. Our fate is no longer solely tied to the Earth’s. To combat our uncertain future on this planet, humanity has begun to explore both Outer and Inner Space.

What road will we take? What will our fate be? Find out, by diving into the world.
