Future Now

A sci-fi universe you can shape and control.

The Project

The future is not a fixed point—it is a story we tell ourselves to understand where we are and where we might go. FutureNow is a framework for exploring that story, using world-building, storytelling, and speculative fiction to examine our past, present, and the possibilities ahead. Through an expansive narrative ecosystem, FutureNow provides a foundation for creators to build, imagine, and share new visions of the future.

Key Achievements:

  • Secured $200,000 in funding from Ontario Creates, allowing us to develop FutureNow’s core universe and initial properties.

  • Partnered with Underknown, leveraging their What If? community of 40M+ followers to promote and explore FutureNow’s themes.

  • Established collaborations with leading academic institutions such as OCAD U and Sheridan, integrating FutureNow into their curriculum to train students in world-building and speculative storytelling.

Our Role

At Embreate, we didn’t just create FutureNow—we built an entire world and community around it.

  • Extensive World-Building: Crafted a rich, interconnected universe, bringing it to life through stories, illustrations, and interactive frameworks.

  • Academic Partnerships: Expanded FutureNow into schools and universities across North America, with OCAD U as a founding partner.

  • Audience Engagement & Expansion: Leveraged online platforms, educational programs, and content partnerships to make FutureNow accessible to emerging and established creators alike.

  • Growing the Universe: We are actively seeking new collaborators across various media, including writers, illustrators, and digital creators, to further expand FutureNow’s reach and impact.

FutureNow gave me the structure and inspiration I needed to develop my novel, The Girl Who Fell to Earth. The depth of the world-building made it easy to tell a compelling story within a rich and immersive universe.
